Nacy Ping- Robbins

Active Artist

My primary interest in painting is to create new visual worlds through abstract art. In the course of pursuing this interest, I get a great deal of satisfaction from manipulation of color, shape, line, and texture. Sometimes the process can be lengthy and require contemplation, and sometimes the work simply emerges from under my hands, much as a song appears to a songwriter. An abstract piece should provide a source of stimulation, visual and
intellectual, on the part of the observer. I want the viewer to keep returning to the work, searching for new viewpoints or new features they may find in the presentation. This is especially true of densely textured pieces. If the viewer
gets everything they can out of one or even just a few viewings, then I have failed
to some extent. Early training was under Charles Regan and in classes in school (won first
place in 8th grade show), as well as touring the great museums of Europe in my
twenties. Luana Williams’ portrait workshop and extended workshop study with
Bob Rankin make up my recent art education. Since returning to painting in 2007 after a career in music, I have kept busy participating in opportunities offered by the following art organizations from time to time:
